For this particular challenge, you’ll improve your spoken French 🗣️ while virtually traveling through Lyon! You’ll learn more about this city’s fascinating history 📜 and must-see sights 🏛️ while also learning phrases you might use if you were to visit. 💬
What you learn will extend beyond your next trip to France ✈️️. You’ll learn useful French vocabulary 📖 with special focus on the correct pronunciation 👄, and you’ll have the chance to improve your understanding of real, everyday spoken French 🧠.

Each week, we'll unlock a new "chapter" to learn about a different aspect of Lyon's culture.
Chapter 1: A Walking Guide to Lyon
Put on your most comfortable shoes, we have a lot of ground to cover in this sprawling city! 🚶♀️ From the elegant Presqu’île to the hidden traboules of Vieux Lyon, we’ll soak in the city’s charm “on foot”. 🏙️ We’ll climb to Fourvière Hill for a breathtaking view 🌄, wander through the artistic Croix-Rousse 🎨, and end in the modern Confluence district.
Chapter 2: Historical Highlights
Lyon has over 2,000 years of history 📜, and we’ll uncover it all together! From its Roman roots in Lugdunum 🏺 to the silk-weaving past of Croix-Rousse 🧵, every street has a story. We’ll visit ancient amphitheaters 🎭, Renaissance mansions 🏰, and the stunning Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière ✨ – a true symbol of the city.
Chapter 3: Culture and Traditions
Lyon’s culture is everywhere—from its famous Guignol puppet 🎭 to its spectacular Fête des Lumières 🎇. We’ll admire the city’s trompe-l’œil murals 🖼️, experience its music 🎶 and festivals 🎉, and dive into its vibrant artistic scene. Get ready to see Lyon in a whole new light!
Chapter 4: Flavours of Lyon
Lyon is France’s food capital 🍽️, and we’re here to taste it all! We’ll visit cozy bouchons 🏠, try local dishes like quenelles 🐟 and cervelle de canut 🧀, and explore the legacy of Paul Bocuse 👨🍳. From bustling food markets 🥖 to a glass of Côtes-du-Rhône 🍷, this chapter is a feast for the senses. Bon appétit !
Each chapter follows a structured yet fun 7-day schedule:
DAY 1: I’ll share a video all about the chapter’s theme in real, everyday (fast) spoken French. 🎥 Don’t worry – you’ll get a transcript too! 📝 Listen carefully to see how much you understand.👂
DAY 2: We’ll go over yesterday’s text & I’ll explain the vocabulary and its pronunciation in depth 🧐 so you can work on your accent and become more familiar with the aspects of spoken French.
DAY 3: Listen to a French dialogue related to the chapter’s theme. 📢 For example, we might share a clip telling you more about one of Lyon’s many festivals. 🎭 Can you repeat what you’ve heard? Do you understand everything? ✅
DAY 4: We’ll explore yesterday’s dialogue in depth and you’ll learn some everyday “slang” around the chapter’s topic (i.e. words that French people actually use in these situations!) 😎
DAY 5: Time for a short quiz! ⁉️Test your knowledge and see how much you understand from the chapter’s challenges so far 🤔
DAY 6: You’ll get access to a complete vocabulary list about this chapter’s topic 📋 including ready-made sentences that YOU can use when visiting France, bonus content, and the lessons in a downloadable PDF. 📩
DAY 7: Take a well-deserved day off! 😴 Use this time to catch up, share your progress with us, and explore the optional bonus resources. 🤓
🔁 We rinse and repeat this schedule 4 times until we’ve covered each chapter. 🔁
Then, on the final day, we’ll do a quiz to see how much you’ve retained!

The 30-Day French Challenge is not designed for complete beginners. Ideally you will have studied some French before (even if for just one semester in school 40 years ago).

I’m a French woman (Paris-born, now living in the Alps) with a passion for sharing my love for French language and culture! Frequently Asked Questions
How long do I have to complete the daily challenges?
As long as you need. There is no time pressure to complete the ‘challenge of the day’. If you need to skip a day or two, or if you’d rather cover an entire chapter’s worth of content every Sunday morning, that’s okay! None of the content is delivered live, and all of the content will remain available after the challenge has completed, so you can catch up whenever it works best for you.
Will I still have access to the material after the 30 days?
Yes, you will continue to have access to the content after the Challenge is over. As with all of our courses, you retain lifetime access!
I've done a Challenge before. Do I need to create a new account?
Possibly. If you already own one of our premium courses or are a member of The French Conversation Club, you will use the same login for the Challenge. Everything will be under one “roof” once you register! If not, you will need to create a new account on our private course platform when you join the Challenge.
