30-Day French Challenge: September 2026

Welcome to the September 2026 Challenge! 👋

I’m so glad that you decided to join us. 🥰

Over the next 30 days, we’re going to explore a daily challenge to help you get better at speaking real, everyday spoken French. Each activity should take no more than 15 minutes a day.

Our Theme & Dates

The content for this ‘Chanson Française’ edition of the 30-Day French Challenge will be delivered from Tuesday, September 1st until Wednesday, September 30th.

Here’s a quick preview of the topics we’ll be covering together:

Chapter 1: Songs of Cabaret (1920–1950)
Step into the music-halls of Paris during les Années Folles 🎭 — when Mistinguett, Édith Piaf, and Maurice Chevalier were singing all the emotions of a city. You’ll discover the songs that became part of France’s cultural heritage, and the vocabulary that goes with them.

Chapter 2 : Poets and Yéyés (1950s & 1960s)
From the smoky Left Bank cabarets to the yé-yé craze 🎸 — this chapter covers one of the richest decades in French music. Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens, Charles Aznavour, Françoise Hardy… plus the slang and spoken French of the era.

Chapter 3 : Disco Meets Tradition (1970s)
Disco arrives in France, and the variety scene explodes 🕺 — with Dalida, Joe Dassin, and a young Renaud singing his satirical ode to l’Hexagone. This chapter also dips into the folk revival happening at the same time.

Chapter 4 : Rock, Pop, Rap & More (1980s & 1990s)
From Téléphone and Mylène Farmer to Jean-Jacques Goldman, MC Solaar, and the French Touch 🎤 — this chapter takes you through two of the most musically diverse decades in French history, with the vocabulary and spoken French to match.

Chapter 5 : Modern French Sounds (2000–2020)
Where is French music today ? 🎶 From Zaz and Stromae to Clara Luciani, Angèle, and Aya Nakamura — this chapter brings you right up to the present, with the vocabulary and cultural context to talk about it all.

How to get quick answers to your questions

We love hearing from you and seeing you connect with your fellow Challengers. Here are some guidelines to help you get the most out of the 30-day French Challenge and the fastest answers to any questions you may have.

  • To ask a question or comment on a lesson: Use the comments section for the day’s lesson, and a member of our team will reply to it as soon as we can. This is also a great place to tell us what you learned, answer a question that was asked in the lesson, and support and encourage your fellow students. (Please keep commentary focused on lesson related topics.) Don’t be afraid to write in French, even if you make mistakes. ❤️
  • To get technical or account support: Please email us at help@commeunefrancaise.com. We will not answer technical or account questions in the comments sections of lessons (it becomes messy and confusing for everyone!). 🛠️

I look forward to spending the next 30 days with you, helping you improve your French and learn more about French culture!

See you soon!
