Christmas in France

30-Day French Challenge: November 2026

Welcome to the November 2026 Challenge! 👋

I’m so glad that you decided to join us. 🥰

Over the next 30 days, we’re going to explore the traditions, customs, and culture that make Christmas in France so special — so you can discover what Noël really looks like from the inside, no matter where you are in the world. Each activity should take no more than 15 minutes a day.

Our Theme & Dates

The content for this ‘Christmas in France’ edition of the 30-Day French Challenge will be delivered from Sunday, November 1st until Monday, November 30th.

Here’s a quick preview of the topics we’ll be covering together:

Chapter 1 : Préparer Noël
Discover how the French get ready for Christmas 🎄 — the Advent calendars, the sapin de Noël, the letters to le Père Noël. You’ll pick up the vocabulary and traditions that mark the start of the festive season in France.

Chapter 2 : Noël en famille
Foie gras, champagne, bûche de Noël, and gifts by the sapin 🎁 — this chapter takes you inside a real French Christmas celebration, with all the vocabulary you need to talk about the traditions, the food, and the family chaos that comes with it.

Chapter 3 : Les Traditions locales
From the Christmas markets of Strasbourg to the thirteen desserts of Provence and the santons of the South 🌟 — France celebrates Christmas very differently depending on where you are. This chapter is your tour of the local traditions, customs, and culture that bring the French festive season to life.

Chapter 4 : Autour de Noël : films et chansons
France doesn’t have many Christmas movies or songs — and the ones it does have are wonderfully, characteristically French 🎬 — dark comedies, dusty classics, and a few hidden gems. This chapter dips into the cultural side of the French festive season.

Chapter 5 : Le Nouvel An
When Christmas wraps up, France turns its attention to le réveillon du Nouvel An 🥂 — champagne with friends, fireworks over the Eiffel Tower, and the warm traditions of étrennes and cartes de vœux. The perfect way to close out the festive season en français.

How to get quick answers to your questions

We love hearing from you and seeing you connect with your fellow Challengers. Here are some guidelines to help you get the most out of the 30-day French Challenge and the fastest answers to any questions you may have.

  • To ask a question or comment on a lesson: Use the comments section for the day’s lesson, and a member of our team will reply to it as soon as we can. This is also a great place to tell us what you learned, answer a question that was asked in the lesson, and support and encourage your fellow students. (Please keep commentary focused on lesson related topics.) Don’t be afraid to write in French, even if you make mistakes. ❤️
  • To get technical or account support: Please email us at help@commeunefrancaise.com. We will not answer technical or account questions in the comments sections of lessons (it becomes messy and confusing for everyone!). 🛠️

I look forward to spending the next 30 days with you, helping you improve your French and learn more about French culture!

See you soon!
